What Are Cookies
Cookies are small text files that are placed on your device (computer, phone, or tablet) when you visit a website. They are widely used to make websites work correctly, remember your preferences, and gather analytics information about how sites are used.
Cookies are not programs — they cannot execute code, carry viruses, or access your files. They simply store small pieces of text that a website can read when you return.
Similar technologies include:
- Local storage: A browser feature that stores data in your browser, similar to cookies but with more capacity and no automatic expiry
- Session storage: Like local storage, but data is cleared when you close the browser tab
- Pixels / web beacons: Tiny invisible images used to track page views (we do not use these for advertising)
This policy covers cookies and these related technologies collectively.
Cookies We Use
We use a minimal set of cookies. We do not use third-party advertising cookies or tracking pixels. Here is a complete breakdown of what we set and why:
| Cookie / Key |
Type |
Purpose |
Duration |
| ally_token |
Essential |
Stores your authentication token so you stay logged in across sessions. Without this, you would need to sign in on every page load. |
7 days (refreshed on activity) |
| ally_session |
Essential |
Maintains your active session state while using the platform. Required for security and for the app to function correctly. |
Session (cleared on browser close) |
| ally_theme |
Preference |
Remembers your selected interface theme (dark, light, or custom) between visits so you do not have to reselect it. |
1 year |
| ally_prefs |
Preference |
Stores other interface preferences, such as message display density (cozy or compact) and notification settings. |
1 year |
| ally_cookie_consent |
Essential |
Records whether you have accepted or declined our cookie banner, so we do not show it to you again. |
1 year |
| _analytics_* |
Analytics |
Privacy-preserving, first-party analytics to help us understand aggregate page traffic and feature usage. No personally identifiable information is collected. Data is not shared with advertising networks. |
90 days |
We do not set advertising cookies, cross-site tracking cookies, or any cookies from third-party advertising networks. We do not use Google Analytics, Facebook Pixel, or similar ad-tracking services.
Managing Cookies
Browser settings
You can control and delete cookies through your browser settings. Instructions for common browsers:
- Chrome: Settings → Privacy and Security → Cookies and other site data
- Firefox: Settings → Privacy and Security → Cookies and Site Data
- Safari: Preferences → Privacy → Manage Website Data
- Edge: Settings → Cookies and site permissions → Cookies and site data
Note that blocking essential cookies (auth tokens, session) will prevent you from using the Ally platform, as authentication requires them.
Our consent banner
When you first visit Ally, we show a cookie consent banner. You can:
- Accept All: Allow essential, preference, and analytics cookies
- Decline: Allow only strictly necessary cookies (authentication and session management)
You can change your preference at any time by clearing the ally_cookie_consent cookie from your browser, which will cause the consent banner to reappear on your next visit.
GDPR and Cookie Consent
Under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the ePrivacy Directive, we are required to obtain your consent before setting non-essential cookies.
Our approach:
- Essential cookies are set without consent, as they are strictly necessary to provide the service you requested. These cannot be declined without breaking core platform functionality.
- Preference cookies and analytics cookies are only set after you click "Accept All" on the consent banner.
If you are located in the EU/EEA and have questions about our cookie practices or want to exercise your rights regarding cookie-based data, contact us at privacy@allyapp.cc.
For more information about how we handle your personal data more broadly, see our Privacy Policy.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time as our use of cookies evolves or legal requirements change. We will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page when changes are made.
Material changes — such as adding new categories of cookies or changing how we use existing ones — will be communicated via the platform and, where applicable, by email.
